This free-of-charge service empowers participants with the legal knowledge and tools needed to advocate for their interests confidently

The European Patient Advocacy Institute (EPAI) is thrilled to announce the launch of the WECAN Legal Clinic, a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting patient advocates and organisations within the European cancer community. Developed in collaboration with the Workgroup of Cancer Patient Advocacy Network (WECAN), this free-of-charge service provides a dedicated platform for addressing legal queries and concerns specific to oncology.

Available every Wednesday with morning and afternoon sessions, the WECAN Legal Clinic offers participants the opportunity to engage with patient advocates experienced in navigating legal challenges within the field of cancer care. While the clinic does not replace formal legal advice from a professional legal team, it aims to provide valuable insights and guidance to assist advocates and organisations in effectively navigating legal complexities.

Whether it’s interpreting contractual terms related to cancer treatments, clarifying legal obligations in cancer research agreements, or strategising negotiation tactics for advocacy efforts, the WECAN Legal Clinic empowers participants with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for their interests confidently.

Appointments are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing the importance of early engagement to secure a slot.

EPAI is delighted to support WECAN in making this much-needed initiative a reality, bridging the gap between cancer patient advocates and legal complexities. By offering this specialised service, WECAN aims to ensure that advocates are equipped with the necessary resources to navigate legal challenges specific to oncology and advance their advocacy efforts effectively.

As we continue to navigate the complexities of the healthcare landscape, initiatives like the WECAN Legal Clinic serve as a beacon of support, ensuring that patient advocates have the resources they need to make a meaningful impact. We encourage advocates and organisations to take advantage of this unique opportunity and leverage the WECAN Legal Clinic as a stepping stone towards advancing their advocacy efforts in the fight against cancer.
